Abstract

It is a national priority to ensure that the population is as healthy as possible. Drinking alcohol is an accepted norm within society; however, increased alcohol consumption has many negative impacts. Nurses and midwives can help to identify those individuals with risk factors for alcohol misuse through increased awareness of impinging factors and alcohol screening. This article will introduce some tools for alcohol screening and some initiatives taking place in the UK.
