The influence of fasting and valence on the gastrointestinal absorption of plutonium in hamsters and rabbits

Abstract

The adsorbtion of plutonium in the hamster was not enhanced by prior oxidation to Pu(VI). However, increased absorption of Pu(VI) and Pu(VI) was obtained in fasted hamsters. The results do not substantiate the high value for absorption of Pu(VI) obtained by Weeks et al. and support the value of 10 -2% recommended by the ICRP Task Group (ICRP79) for soluble forms of plutonium.
